The perfect meeting place for domestic and international companies having CIS coal-related interests
In 2011 stable growth was observed at domestic steam coal market in Russia and Ukraine. Price growth is stipulated by seasonal demand increase by power-generating companies, and also by deficit of available open-top wagons and increase of railway tariffs in Russia. Ministry of Coal Industry of Ukraine plans to increase sales price of fuel supplied to state thermal power plants.
Exporters will gradually strengthen positions at all major markets due to increase of demand from foreign consumers.
Taking into consideration expert opinions, in 2012 steel production volumes will increase in Russia and decrease in Ukraine. At the domestic market of Russian coking coal supply will correspond to demand. Share of inter-holding supplies will continue to grow. Demand for coking coal in Ukraine will correspond to supply due to increase of coal import volumes from Russia and from abroad. Prices decrease for supplies is possible at further worsening of steel products market and fall of Russian coal prices.
Other important questions for Ukrainian coal market that remain are perspectives of coal production enterprises privatization and coal products quality control.
